Council fostering allowances
It is really important that our foster carers are rewarded for what they do. The amount we pay depends on the number of children looked after, and how old they are, from £541 – £922 per week per child.
Croydon Council are one of the highest paying fostering services in the south of England.

In addition to this, we also make several additional payments:
- Retention bonus of £1500 every year (after 3 years of fostering for Croydon)
- Council tax reimbursement
- birthday allowance up to £299 per year per child
- festival allowance up to £299 per year per child
- holiday allowance for the child up to £598 per year
- holiday allowance for the foster carer up to £700 per year
- referral reward of £1200 upon approval of new carers
- Start up grant of up to £500
- School uniform allowance of £300 per year per child
Skilled (entry level) foster carers: Up to £647 per week per child
Advanced foster carers: Up to £772 per week per child
Specialist foster carers: Up to £922 per week per child
We also make expenses payments to cover all the additional costs of fostering.
This includes mileage, clothing/school uniform allowance, equipment such as pushchairs, additional furniture etc.
